Martin Shkreli Wants to Buy Kanye’s New Album for $10 Million
“The College Dropout” inspired the “pharma bro” to succeed
Martin Shkreli, the infamous “pharma bro” with an apparent penchant for unpopularity, wants to exclusively buy Kanye West’s new album, The Life of Pablo.
West streamed the album, which he has been heavily promoting on social media in recent weeks, live on Tidal Thursday night as part of his New York Fashion Week show.
“I have been a tremendous fan of your music for many years,” Shkreli wrote in the letter, which he posted to Twitter on Thursday. “Specifically, ‘The College Dropout’ inspired me to succeed at a young age.”
Shkreli, who paid $2 million last year for a Wu-Tang Clan album, asked West to sell the album to him for $10 million instead of releasing it to fans.
“I believe you and your partners will find this financial arrangement more attractive than your current course of action,” he said.
“Kanye and his label are legally required to take my offer letter to their Board of Directors. This should delay the album by a few days,” he posted later.
Shkreli gained notoriety when he boosted the price of an AIDS medication after acquiring the drug, and he most recently sparked controversy when he threatened to erase rapper Ghostface Killah from the unreleased Wu-Tang Clan album.
